Heather Scallan
DELAND, FL Level I Instructor
I fell in love with martial arts at a young age, starting with TaeKwonDo in 1996, i got my black belt in 1999. I continued to train at get my 3rd degree at the age of 16 and the highest female rank in my school at the time. Many years later I started training in the self defense program Jodokkdo in 2015. In 2020 during the full swing of Covid I earned my black belt in Jodokkdo. While having some Jiu Jitsu in the self defense program, Due to neck and back injuries, I have trained on and off in jiu jitsu.
It has been a goal of mine to help women in any way I can. Building confidence in them selves, learning how to set boundaries, defending themselves from any kind of unwanted attention. Seeing the change in them as their skills grow, their own view of themselves and how they see the world around them.Â
I know how important it is to feel like you are worth the fight to be a strong confident woman, being the victim of assult myself I know what its like to have your world changed. I am beyond excited to be a part of this amazing team of ladies at Mean Girl Self Defense/ HERO Self Defense!
In my spare time I write, draw, play video games, spend time with my husband (who teaches the self defense program we are in at our school), cuddle and play with my dog and just overall being a nerd dressing up and going to the big conventions.
